I wanted to take this opportunity as we to reflect on what we are actually celebrating on Memorial Day. It is truly a great time to reflect and recognize not only the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice to protect and defend our country in the past, but also a time to remember that we still have many young Americans in harms way around the world.
We honor those who have given what Lincoln called "that last full measure of devotion" to protect our nation.
As someone who has had the honor of serving our country, I know firsthand the dangers our brave servicemen and servicewomen have faced in defending our freedom around the world. Sometimes, people take for granted the great freedoms we enjoy but we must never forget those brave patriots who made the ultimate sacrifice on behalf of our country. We also must remember to honor our commitments to the Veterans who have come home yet still need our help. Remember them also.
I hope everyone enjoys this holiday weekend with friends and family, but I hope you will join me in taking a moment to reflect on those heroes we are remembering and to say prayer for the safe return home of our troops who are currently in harms way around the world.
The Silver City Tea Party did an outstanding job hosting the meet and great event last night. We had just about 41 people in attendance which was a great turn out. During this event I had shared some of my thoughts and answered many questions from the audience. There were some great questions asked about immigration, jobs and the economy, taxes, cap and trade, and many more. I had people give ideas on what we could do to improve our broken system. There was a gentleman that was very concerned about our education system and how many of our schools were not performing to the best of their ability. He stated that we should tie in welfare benefits to test scores. If the students do not meet the test score welfare should be reduced. There were many great suggestions and ideas, we just need people to speak up and keep fighting issues that cripple our society.

The following is an interesting economic analysis. While not a policy recommendation it helps explain the world economic situation and how decisions impact our economy.
Don't Follow Greece off the Austerity Cliff

How can Greece, which accounts for less than 0.6% of global GDP, threaten the entire world economy? The same way that a wasp can kill a family of four—by presenting them with an opportunity to do something dumb.
By itself, a wasp is little more than an annoyance. However, if one gets into a car that is going 80 miles per hour, the people inside can panic, start flailing at it, run off the road, and hit a tree. Right now, Greece is the wasp, we are the people in the car, and the flailing is tax-hiking "austerity."
The death spiral

Yesterday, I had the pleasure of speaking at the Coronado Elementary 6th grade banquet. The educators there have been doing an exceptional job and I would like to personally thank them and the Principal Black for the work they do equipping todays youth with knowledge they need to be successful.

This Past Thursday I had the honor of being the guest speaker for the Jefferson Montessori Academy graduation. When I first visited Jefferson Montessori Academy a few years back they were renting out two buildings to accommodate their students. Now the Jefferson Montessori Academy and the Community of Carlsbad have a beautiful new building to call their own. With the leadership and dedication that is given by the Board of trustees, directed by Dr. Gregory Roselle, the faculty and staff led by Cindy Holguin (C.E.O), Jefferson Montessori Academy is a prime example of an outstanding charter schools in the state of New Mexico.
(Steve Pearce with the JMA graduates)
When I had the opportunity of meeting the faculty and staff at JMA I was introduced to a kindergarten teacher who reminded me how to figure out the area of a parallelogram and hexagon. It’s amazing what kids learn at such a young age. How many of your Kindergarteners can do that kind of geometric calculation?
