Accusation:

Harry Teague says Steve Pearce has been bad for Veterans.

Truth:

Steve Pearce is a Veteran and has repeatedly stood up for them.

As a veteran himself, Steve Pearce always made it a priority to look after the interests of our veterans. He helped pass historic legislation to help veterans, especially disabled vets and those injured in service of their country.

• Aggressively pushed to pass legislation that finally ended the unfair 100-year "concurrent receipt" policy that punished disabled veterans.

• Introduced the Wounded Warrior Retention Act to give wounded veterans the option to continue their military service.

• Introduced the HEALTHY Vets Act to increase access to local healthcare providers for rural veterans so they aren’t forced to drive hundreds of miles for care.

Cynthia and I completed the 15 hour conceal carry class last weekend.  Cynthia got my attention with her shooting. Using a .45 caliber Kimber automatic, she shot a 4" pattern with 24 shots at the center of the target and the bridge of the nose being the objective for the one high round.

I know several “decorated” heroes from different branches of service; Army Rangers, 5th Special Forces, SOG groups, 82nd Airborne, Navy SEALS and the like.  I’m not sure just how many I know - but it’s a bunch.  It is not very often that you are asked by a fellow Veteran to review his military record and make a comment or two.  My friend, and former Congressman Steve Pearce, a candidate for the 2010 U.S. House of Representatives, District 2, from New Mexico – asked me to do just that; in part because we were stationed at the same base in Vietnam “…back when…” and in part, because he wanted a second set of eyes to set the record straight about a subject he keeps to himself – the way most heroes do.

Going to war was not my idea.  I drew a low draft number and entered ROTC in order to finish college.  I was not one of the anti-war types and never considered fleeing to Canada to avoid the draft or serving.  It was just not my first choice of careers when I finished college.  But I was called and I did my duty.

After graduating from UPT (Undergraduate Pilot Training) at Reese AFB, Texas, I received orders to fly C-130’s in Southeast Asia for 18 months.  Arriving in mid 1971, my orders would carry me thru the end of 1972 in the war zone.

About March of 1971, the 774thSquadron, the last squadron of C-130’s at Clark AB where I was stationed, received word that we would be deactivated and that our planes would be returned to the US.  All of us would receive orders to new assignments. Our war duty would be ended.  The news was greeted with a mixture of relief and sadness.  No one likes to be exposed to the hazards of war but the thought of being back in the states while the war and our mission was still going on left one a little empty.

What will Teague Attempt to Tax Next?

HOBBS, NM – It was one year ago today that Harry Teague and his liberal Democrat friends in Washington rubber-stamped the job-killing national energy tax.  Teague provided a crucial vote on the legislation that would increase taxes and drive up the cost of electricity and gas at the pump as well as cost New Mexico jobs.

“The Cap and Trade legislation that Teague supported would be devastating for New Mexico families.  The economy is still struggling and New Mexican families are still struggling.  Yet, Harry Teague and his special interest friends in Washington continue to look for new ways to tax Americans and kill jobs,” said former Congressman Steve Pearce.

How are Democrats in Washington celebrating the one-year anniversary of passing the National Energy Tax in the House?  They are floating a new energy bill in the Senate, which will include a multi-trillion dollar gas tax.

Where does Teague stand on this idea?

A Report by the U.S. Senate Committee on Commerce, Science & Transportation

The American Power Act proposed by Senators Kerry of Massachusetts and Lieberman of Connecticut is the latest attempt to cap American carbon emissions through new federal legislation. However, Kerry-Lieberman is unique from previous efforts by also proposing a new gas tax on the transportation sector. American families and workers will pay this new climate-related tax on the gasoline, diesel and jet fuel they use to drive and ride in their cars, trucks, tractors and planes. This report documents the cost of this proposed Kerry-Lieberman gas tax.

Past attempts at federal climate legislation have struggled with how to cut carbon emissions from the transportation sector. A cap-and-trade approach used on industrial facilities is not ideal for transportation emissions, essentially becoming a complicated indirect tax on fuels. Kerry- Lieberman takes the direct approach of assessing a fee on transportation fuels linked to their carbon content.

HOBBS, NM – According to FoxNews, the Obama administration is considering bypassing Congress to grant legal status to millions of illegal immigrants.  (Judson Berger, “Source: Administration Weighs Bypassing Congress to Let Illegal Immigrants Stay,” FoxNews.com, June 25, 2010)

Former Congressman Steve Pearce issued the following statement on the proposal:

“I believe it is entirely wrong to grant blanket legalization. We must take comprehensive steps to secure our border and solve the immigration issue.

What we see is a leadership vacuum on immigration reform in Washington. I hear frustration in every community I visit.  The process is deeply flawed and the problem continues to build.  Americans want a comprehensive solution.  This will make things worse not better.

The Administration’s plan to grant mass amnesty would be an admission that it never had any intention of dealing with this issue honestly or comprehensively. It also explains why it has been late and never serious about border security.”

Jobs
BY Steve Pearce, ON JUNE 25, 2010

By Steve Pearce:

Yesterday the CEO of Verizon Communications Inc, Ivan Seidenberg, who also heads the Business Roundtable slammed the Obama administration for decisions that “create an increasingly hostile environment for investment and job creation.”  It was the first time this influential group of chief executives of the nation’s largest companies has publicly criticized the administration’s policies.

Business investment is the only way the economy expands and new jobs are created.  When the government taxes more, less capital is left to create jobs.  Some describe this as the “trickle down” effect.  Nothing could be further from the truth.  The free market that made this country’s standard of living the best in the world is a Capitalist economy.  Capital is the key component of Capitalism.  When capital is available to companies they create new jobs.  Taxes take away cash from the companies so job growth slows when taxes go up.
