Pearce Endorsed by US Chamber of Commerce

World’s Largest Business Federation Based Endorsement On Pearce’s “Pro-Business” Record

HOBBS, NM – Today the US Chamber of Commerce’s Board of Directors, representing the world’s largest business federation, endorsed Steve Pearce for Congress.

In a letter from Chamber President and CEO Thomas J. Donohue, the group based its endorsement on Pearce’s record of support for businesses and fostering a job-creating environment.  From the letter:

“At no other time in our nation’s history has it been more critical that Members of Congress provide leadership that protects and advances the interests of the business community. We believe that your election to the US House will help produce sustained economic growth and help create more jobs.”

“I’m honored and humbled to have the support of such an important organization,” said Pearce. “As a businessman, I have created jobs, and as a legislator, I have always supported policies that will grow our economy, like lower taxes and less government. ”

HOBBS, NM – Congressman Teague launched another false attack today in an attempt to hide his own record of failure on jobs.

FACT #1: Teague changes newspaper article.

Teague ad falsely claims: Steve Pearce said, "Every time a U.S. job goes to India, new jobs are created in America."

The Teague ad falsely attributes words in quotations, and puts them in Steve Pearce's mouth.  Also the Teague campaign reverses the meaning of the article. The article is titled, "Pearce hopes India trip will help reverse declining exports by N.M. companies." (November 30, 2005) The article discusses how Pearce is trying to find ways to create New Mexico jobs by exporting to India and can be found here.

Then in the context of the article about exports helping both countries' economies, the article   characterizes a Pearce statement, but does not put it in quotes.  The Teague television ad falsely puts that as a quote into Pearce's mouth.

FACT #2:  This law did not ship jobs overseas.

Teague Votes to Leave Town Before Tax Cut Extension

Shirking Responsibility to Save His Political Career

HOBBS, NM – Today the House of Representatives voted 210-209 to adjourn until after the November elections without voting on a tax relief extension. Congressman Teague was the deciding vote to adjourn and not deal with the tax cut extensions.

“Just last week, Harry Teague said he supported an extension of the 2001 and 2003 tax cuts, but today he voted to shirk his responsibility to the American taxpayer,” said Pearce campaign spokesman Jason Heffley. “He and Nancy Pelosi decided that saving their own jobs matters more than saving their constituents’ jobs.”

Heffley continued, “Today’s vote was a vote for higher taxes. Teague proved once again that the political interests of himself and his fellow liberals come before the economic interests of New Mexico families.”

A friend passed this interesting note along to me yesterday in honor of the centennial of the first licensed female pilot, Raymonde de LaRoche of France. The history in this article is fascinating, and as a pilot for 40 years, I believe the industry would be better served with more women behind the controls. I hope to see more in the near future.

Why So Few Women Pilots?
