August Unemployment Climbs to 9.6%

Democrats’ Summer of Recovery a Complete Bust

HOBBS, NM – Today the Department of Labor announced that unemployment in the month of August climbed to 9.6%, and the private sector shed 57,000 jobs.  Last January, the White House indicated that unemployment would never top 8% if its economic plans were put into place.

“Harry Teague and his liberal friends tried to sell the people a bill of goods under the “recovery summer” label,” said Pearce campaign spokesman Jason Heffley. “Unfortunately for the people of New Mexico, this summer lacked anything similar to economic recovery. Despite trillions in new spending and debt, the Democrats’ wishful thinking has not produced measurable, positive results.”

Heffley continued, “Whether he is voting against his constituents’ interests on the cap-and-trade energy tax, or supporting trillion dollar spending programs financed through ever expanding deficits, Teague continues to irresponsibly march in lockstep with the liberal establishment in Washington. He and his party leadership have once again failed the people, and cannot be trusted with two more years in power.”

“It’s time for Harry Teague to admit that his big government policies have failed.”
