Calls on Teague to Take a Position
HOBBS, NM – Following the passage of the Organ Mountains-Desert Peaks Wilderness Act out of the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee, Steve Pearce said:
"While I certainly appreciate the legitimate concerns over preserving and protecting New Mexico's valuable natural areas, there are better ways to go about it than the Wilderness Bill in its current form. Right now it is fatally flawed.
"This is not just about property rights, it is also about jobs and border security . This Wilderness Bill, will kill jobs and make our borders harder to patrol.
"I believe there are alternative options available to protect our spectacular natural resources such as some of those put forward by "People for Preserving Our Western Heritage" and the https://www.lascruces.org/assets/tiny_mce/plug
">Greater Las Cruces Chamber of Commerce."
"Like a typical Washington insider, Congressman Teague has been sidestepping this issue and refusing to lead at home. I hope Congressman Teague will take a position on the Wilderness Bill immediately. "
Pearce wrote an opinion editorial in January calling for a field hearing in Las Cruces so Congress could understand the bill's harsh impact on the economy. It was published in the Artesia Daily Press.
