The President mentioned several things in his State of the Union speech which I would be happy to work to pass.

  1. Allow Offshore Oil and Gas Drilling - every barrel of oil we produce here which is not imported from the Middle East defunds people who desire great damage to this nation.
  2. Clean Coal technology - the US is the Saudia Arabia of coal, we have hundreds of years of supply.
  3. Nuclear Power plant permitting - it is the ultimate clean energy and would create thousands of jobs.
  4. Invest in successful schools and successful teachers, not rewarding failure.
  5. Break healthcare reform into small bits, 10 page bills dealing with one issue at a time.  I would help on the following items:
    1. Frivolous lawsuit reform.
    2. Portability - you take your insurance policy with you if you leave your job.
    3. Shop for health insurance across state lines.
    4. Medical IRA's with incentives to get young couples to purchase - these are usable at any age without tax consequences to pay for premiums, deductibles, office visits and prescriptions, what is not used accumulates in the savings account to be used for medical costs throughout a person's life
  6. Free trade, with the caveat that our government enforce the agreements, so that fair trade occurs.

In fact, each of these issues, with the exception of portability and shopping across state lines, are ones that I either supported or worked on during my 6 years in Congress.  At the risk of offending my Democrat friends, each of these issues was blocked by Democrats in Congress.

Who says we can't work together?

Go, Steve!
Just because we won't compromise on certain issues that would require compromising principles doesn't mean that we can't work together whenever possible, and are glad to do it!
We aren't resisting bipartisanship, just bad ideas!
Thanks for making this crystal clear. Wish I could vote for you!
